Day 3 - the High Line

We both managed to awake well, and went down to breakfast in the small breakfast room. We returned to our room where Sue caught up with her emails - mostly Yale University contacts finalising arrangements for next week.

We then went for a walk to the High Line, a new raised gardened walkway replacing an old railway line that fed cattle to the abattoirs in the Meatpacking district down around West 14th St. The area is now becoming an upmarket residential area and Art Gallery district. Some of the new buildings are avant garde in their architecture - see photos:

About half-way along the high line we stopped for a drink at the Half King Hotel on W 23rd St (http://www.thehalfking.com/). At the end we walked through the fashion centre of Chelsea, stopping for lunch at Chelsea Ristorante, a flash Italian eatery on the main street (http://www.chrnyc.com/). After a fine lunch we caught a train back up to 42nd Street, by which time my left foot was very painful, so we returned to the hotel. I took some painkillers which wiped me out for the rest of the day. For dinner Sue brought back some Japanese from the place at which we dined last night.
