New Haven - Monday Sept 10

Sue caught the shuttle to the Yale Nursing School as usual. I did some laundry and was going to blog but I had trouble getting the internet to work. Eventually it worked, but I did some basic stuff such as downloading the brochure for the 2013 season of the Ensemble Theatre in Sydney, to which we have been subscribers for many years. There are some interesting plays, including some Australian and world premieres, along with an oldie by Tennessee Williams.

After lunch (of a pizza sub) I asked where the Post Office is. I was told it was just down Sargent Drive, past Ikea. I decided to walk, as my heel was feeling good. I found the Post Office and bought some stamps for postcards and other cards. I then walked into town, my heel barely noticeable. As the final of the US tennis Open was to start at 4:00, I headed slowly to the Black Bear Saloon, arriving just before 4.

While the tennis was on I had chats with a couple of guys either side of me at the bar, one about the tennis, the other about business and life in America. About 6 I thought I should have something to eat, so I ordered some Bear sliders. These went down well with the beer, and I settled in to watch the remaining tennis, with some side glances at the Monday night football. A bit after 7 Sue finished her meeting and came to join me to watch the end of the tennis. She brought with her the remains of the pizza they had ordered at their venue - once again a giant-sized job - actually that was just the box! After a few more drinks and at the end of the match - won by the Scot Andy Murray - we caught a taxi home. I was surprised I was still coherent (to me anyway!). Slept well.
