Day 4 - Drama in NYC

As we went back to our room after breakfast for Sue to do some more work, I started to work on my Day 3 blog. The hotel's web page noted breaking news - several people have been shot near the Empire State building about 09:00 - while we were having breakfast. So we're safe, but at least 2 people are dead and several wounded / injured taken to hospital.

Puts a different perspective on the remaining day for us here in NYC!!

After doing some emailing and watching the unfolding news on TV until 11:00, we went up to Times Square's Foot Locker shop to buy me some new shoes with extra heel support. Ended up with just new insoles!

We then walked up to 5th Avenue to try to find Bloomingdale's or the MoMA. First we found a Thank God It's Fridays where we had some lunch. After lunch we headed to MoMA ($US25.00 each; http://www.moma.org/?gclid=CMa_9vOMhLICFSYQNAodbG4ArQ)

and looked in the level 5 and 4 galleries - van Gogh, Monet, Seurat and Warhol just some of the artists represented. We found out that Bloomingdales was too far north, so we caught a subway train to Grand Central Station and bought tickets to New Haven for Saturday. We then caught a cab back to our hotel to rest before tonight's musical - Once (see http://www.oncemusical.com/).

On the way to the theatre we stopped at O'Donoghues hotel (http://odonoghuestimessquare.com/ ) for dinner - a Reuben's sandwich for Sue and a Shepherd's pie for me. We arrived at the theater some 10 minutes before the scheduled start, but a large group of people were on the stage having pre-show drinks while a band - the troupe - were playing Irish music. Eventually the stage was cleared and the show began. It is an excellent production not to be missed by anyone coming to New York.

The show started at 8:00 p.m. and we returned to our hotel at about 11:00. Times Square was jumping!
